CTP is an acronym for Computer-To-Plate. In conventional pre-press procedures, your digital files are sent to an imagesetter which produces a film negative. This film negative is then duplicated and “stripped” into a layout or “imposition” to maximize the space available on a printing plate. This layout is then used to “burn” a photosensitive printing plate. With CTP, the digital information from your files is sent directly to an imagesetter which creates the printing plates - skipping the film and the stripping.

"What does this mean to me?”, you might ask. It means faster pre-press production workflow, higher quality image, and most importantly less cost to you. In other words, you can get it all - speed, quality, and cost effectiveness. Our state-of-the-art Heidelberg CTP system lets us get your job off to the press faster than ever. There are other advantages to this modernized workflow system.

  • Better Colour - by reducing the analog technology of conventional pre-press workflow, the image on the printing plates is more faithful to the original. This means better colour accuracy, and less set up time.
  • Easier Proofing - No more “educated guesses" about colour breaks with a blue-line proof. CTP replaces the blue-line with a digital plotter color-line proof.
  • Easier Revisions - The digital information is transferred directly onto the printing plate. This bypasses darkroom work, manual impositioning and film. Last minute revisions, even when they are on the press, are easier than ever.
